Instructors also give direction on administrative office skills including medical charting and filing, basic word processing and computer information, customer service skills, and various other routine office procedures. After successfully completing the MA program, students should be prepared to work in entry-level positions in a physician’s office, clinic, or other medical setting.

What is a Medical Assistant?

A medical assistant is a healthcare professional that works alongside doctors, nurses, and other healthcare staff. Medical assistants are found in physicians' offices, hospitals, clinics, and a variety of other locations. In some larger facilities, they are oftentimes specialized in a particular area, whether clinical or administrative. In smaller practices, a medical assistant will likely be found performing a variety of both administrative and clinical tasks and helping to keep the office running smoothly.

Medical Assistant Externships

The final portion of the Medical Assistant program at Ross is an externship experience. The externship is crucial to the learning experience for every Ross student, as it gives them a chance to apply what they have been taught and practiced in the classroom to a real world setting. The externship also provides employers an opportunity to assess students’ skills prior to hiring entry-level allied health professionals. In addition, unlike some other schools, Ross does not require any waiting period for externships as part of the curriculum! This is another example of our commitment to students’ success.

Certification for Medical Assistant Graduates

As healthcare and technology continue to move forward, certification becomes even more important to employers looking to add to their healthcare team. Becoming certified in the medical assisting field shows that you are highly qualified, knowledgeable in your field, and committed to being the best. It shows that you are dedicated to providing excellent patient care and desire to continue growing in your profession.

At Ross, we understand the importance of CMA certification and are confident in the preparation they provide to graduates. Due to this, Ross offers reimbursement to graduates that take the Registered Medical Assistant certification exam through American Medical Technologists.

One of the most difficult things to do in life is to start. Ross is where I started. Ross did an excellent job providing information, tools, advice, and homework that helped me discover that there are no ideal conditions and what matters is that I take action to start somewhere; a valuable lesson to integrate into all aspects of my life.

My experience at Ross has been nothing but positive. From the day that I first expressed interest, all the way through to the externship experience, Ross has provided me with an outstanding training of my chosen field. The small class size and differentiated instruction has allowed me to feel more than prepared to enter in to the medical coding and billing field.

Following my years after high school, coming to Ross was one of the best things I've chosen to do. I've learned a lot through my classmates and teachers. Ross has helped me to further my career for becoming a neonatal nurse practitioner. I highly recommend Ross to anyone who is looking for a great medical program.

I have never been good at school, so thinking about taking classes again made me very anxious and unsure if this was what I even really wanted. I feel confident that I made the right decision. The instructors really care about you and your academic goals. They do everything they can to help guide you through your Medical Assistant journey. Without their support, I would have really struggled to want to stick with the program. So, a huge THANK YOU to Ebony Whitney for your unconditional support and all the extra time you spent helping me!

I started at Ross Medical in October of 2018. I loved it right away. The staff was very helpful and friendly. I was halfway through my 3rd mod when I had to have heart surgery. Unfortunately, this caused me to have to leave the program. I was very disappointed to say the least. All of the staff was extremely encouraging, telling me not to worry and that they would be there to help me when I came back. I returned June of 2019. True to their word, they were ready and waiting to get me back on track. Mrs. Craft and Mrs. Kerner are extremely knowledgeable in what they teach. They gave me everything I needed to be a successful student and MA. My experience at Ross gave me the knowledge and tools to become a confident MA. I would recommend Ross to everyone! I actually have a friend in KY who just asked about Ross and I made sure to tell her what an amazing experience I had. If you are looking for a career in the medical field, Ross Medical Education Center is a really good option.
