RED-S (relative energy deficiency in sport) is a common thread in high school sports, particularly female athletics. It is similar to the female athletic triad, however, RED-S encompasses a wider range of body symptoms with physiological concerns that occur with energy deficiency. There is a lack of widespread knowledge regarding the issue and the importance of high school athletic trainers knowing about this disease and how to identify this concern is paramount to prevent re-occurrence or new onset injuries.
